Novel Project

We are moving on to our second novel projects of the school year. This time around we have decided to read our own novels rather than read in groups of the same novels. Your student should have a book they are reading on their own time as well as in provided class time. This novel is one they personally picked out and are going to read through withing the next two(ish) weeks.
As they read through their novel they are focusing their thoughts on a project they will be completing on their own during provided class time and at home if they wish/need. These projects will then be presented in class at the end of our two(ish) week time frame. I have gone through a Google Slide presentation with them providing project examples they may complete for their book. I encouraged them to think about which projects would work best for their book, as well as which projects they have the means to complete.
As I said, I will be providing plenty of work time in class but they will need to provide their own supplies. I have colored paper, glue, markers/crayons/colored pencils, and some cardboard, but other things such as Legos, action figures, and more would need to be brought from home. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know! I have attached the link to the google slides project options below so that you may also take a look.

Salt Dough Landforms

Thank you for providing the materials for your children to make salt dough! We had a ton of fun forming and painting our landforms and were able to learn more through this hands-on, visually appealing activity. I hope to be able to continue small projects like these as I believe they make all the difference when it comes to what students take away from a lesson. I hope you enjoy these pictures of our completed landforms!

Pride at the Parade!

Thank you to all of those who showed up to participate in the parade last night! It was a big warm, but the sun was shining and the smiles were big! There was a great turn out for Lincoln and we kept the energy high as we walked the parade. The community showed up in full force to show support for all of the area schools,. A great time was had by all! Here are two of our classmates showing their Lincoln Lion Pride!

Guest Speaker Today!

Today we had the privilege of hearing a professional biker, Cassie Maximenko, speak about pursuing dreams, reaching goals, and what it takes to become an elite athlete. Cassie participated in the cyclo-cross race this past weekend at the fair grounds, taking first place for the women. Cassie taught us all about never giving up and what it really means to be tough. Here are a few pictures from the presentation:

The First Few Weeks

The first few weeks have blown by in a blur! They have been busy with learning from myself as well as their fellow classmates. I plan to use this blog as a simple way to keep everyone updated on what is going on within our classroom. The posts will consist of activities we are working on, events we attend, proud moments throughout the school, and other interesting and important information.

Please feel free to comment with added information or pictures you may have to contribute! Look forward to more posts coming soon!

Acid Testing

Currently in science we are studying rocks. This week we took a look at what rocks are made of and how we can test these materials. This week's studies ended with hydrochloric acid testing of various rocks. We learned that limestone reacts to acid, while shale and sandstone do not. Here are a few pictures from the testing!
